Menlo Microsystems Announces Deal to Manufacture the Ideal Switch® in Upstate New York

With the support of Sen. Schumer, Gov. Hochul, and the Empire State Development Corp., Menlo Micro will begin producing key components in Tompkins Co., NY creating high-paying American jobs.

About the project

Menlo Micro has closed on an asset purchase in Tompkins County, N.Y. for the company’s first domestic fab, which will be called the Ideal Fab™. Menlo Micro plans to invest >$50M into the Ideal Fab over the next two to three years, creating approximately 100 high tech jobs at the site within the next five years. In addition, the company is pursuing government investment through diverse funding sources to support updates to the Ideal Fab as well as the company’s future domestic expansion.
Menlo Micro will begin retrofitting the building function to meet the unique and proprietary material science manufacturing requirements for its Ideal Switch® in July 2023, with U.S.-based manufacturing estimated to begin in 2024. The new Tompkins County-based fab is expected to produce thousands of wafers per month and create high-quality, skilled, and in demand jobs over the coming years as the company continues to invest in American manufacturing.
